A message from the District Governor
November 24 2008
Fellow Rotarians,
I'm writing to remind you of Rotary's commitment to the children of the world. Thanks to the generous challenge grant of $100,000,000.00 from the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, we are close to realizing the promise of ending the crippling disease of polio.
A condition of the challenge was that Rotary would match the grant during the three-year period beginning December 1, 2007. I've received the November 2008 progress report from our Zone 23 coordinator showing the contributions to date by the clubs in our district. I'm very pleased to recognize the following clubs who have already met or exceeded their PolioPlus commitment.
Arcata Sunrise
Calistoga
Healdsburg
Mendocino

Petaluma Sunrise
Santa Rosa
Santa Rosa East
Sebastopol Sunrise

Rotary International President, D.K. Lee has asked every Rotary club to contribute $1000 each year over the three year period. In fairness to the smaller clubs, I'm asking each club to establish a per capita goal of $20.00 per member for their club. This will meet the clubs annual commitment over the three-year period.
The Rotary year is nearly half over and a number of clubs have not reported or may not have started their polio campaign. If we are to successfully meet the challenge, clubs must develop a plan and get started. We have an active PolioPlus committee headed by PDG Larry Myers and District Challenge Grant Coordinator, PDG Mike Merrill. We're all here to assist you.
Invite your community to join the team to end polio. Remind them that polio is only a plane ride away for children who have never been immunized.
Thank you for joining the partnership to end polio. You are making dreams real.
I wish the blessings of a bountiful Thanksgiving for you and your family.
